Neville Rips Into Man United Flops, Says Five Must Go Under Amorim — Betting Markets Stir

Gary Neville didn’t hold back following Manchester United’s goalless draw against Manchester City, calling for a summer clear-out under new manager Ruben Amorim. The former Red Devils defender believes at least five current players simply don’t cut it for Amorim’s high-intensity system — including some of the club’s recent signings.

Neville’s post-match rant on Sky Sports took aim at United’s attacking trio and both wing-backs, claiming none are suited for the type of aggressive, front-foot football Amorim is known for.

“They need five players right away before you can even think about the rest,” Neville said. “The front three aren’t good enough. Neither are the wing-backs. If you want Amorim to succeed, you have to give him the tools.”

While he didn’t name names, it’s widely believed Neville was referring to Rasmus Hojlund, Alejandro Garnacho, Joshua Zirkzee, Diogo Dalot, and January signing Patrick Dorgu. Notably, Bruno Fernandes — who started in the front three — escaped criticism, with Neville previously labeling him “United’s only real player of absolute quality.”

Attacking Trio Failing to Deliver

The numbers back up Neville’s frustration. Between them, Hojlund, Garnacho, and Zirkzee have produced just 10 goals across 85 Premier League appearances this season — a return that’s fueling United’s stagnant attack. Despite individual flashes of promise, the trio’s lack of consistency in the final third continues to drag the team down.

For punters keeping an eye on United’s odds in the online sportsbetting world, these offensive struggles have become a critical factor. Betting lines around United’s goal totals and match outcomes have reflected the side’s chronic underperformance, especially in big games.

Amorim Demands Patience — But Bookies Aren’t Waiting

Ruben Amorim, speaking after the draw, acknowledged the squad’s limitations and hinted that change is coming. “We have so many aspects to improve,” he said. “Build-up, transitions, decision-making. Every player here showed something at their previous clubs, but we’re still stuck playing on the break.”

Amorim’s call for time and trust is understandable, but betting markets are already reacting. Odds on United finishing in the top four have drifted, and wagers on a major squad overhaul this summer are gaining traction — especially as insiders believe a major recruitment drive is in the works.

Signs of Life, But Is It Enough?

While United have only lost twice in their last nine matches, they’ve also only won three — a streak that includes a penalty shootout defeat to Fulham and a loss to Nottingham Forest. Amorim’s side has tightened up defensively, but attacking production remains a glaring weakness.

Online sportsbooks have taken notice, with markets adjusting for low-scoring United fixtures. Bettors are leaning heavily on unders in goal totals and short odds for both teams to score “no” in upcoming games — trends that reflect the team’s offensive drought.

If Neville’s prediction holds true and a summer overhaul begins, United’s betting value could shift dramatically. For now, though, the Red Devils remain a risky play — unpredictable, uninspiring, and badly in need of reinforcements.
