Semenyo Tilts Toward Manchester City as January Transfer Picture Sharpens

December 25, 2025 at 5:03 pm

Antoine Semenyo is increasingly likely to be on the move in January, with Manchester City emerging as the forward’s preferred next step.

City Take Control of the Race

The Bournemouth attacker is understood to be leaning toward Pep Guardiola’s side, putting City ahead of a crowded Premier League field. United had been pushing hard behind the scenes, but City now look best placed to get a deal over the line. Should that happen, it would leave their city rivals empty-handed after weeks of tracking the player.

Interest Was Widespread

Semenyo’s form hasn’t gone unnoticed. Liverpool carried out early checks, Tottenham kept tabs, and Chelsea briefly entered the conversation earlier this week. The Blues made an initial enquiry after the player took time to consider his options, but that interest has since cooled. Chelsea have now stepped away from the race altogether.

Chelsea Choose a Different Path

Despite Semenyo’s west London roots and personal ties to Chelsea, the club has decided not to pursue the deal any further for now. There is a growing belief at Stamford Bridge that Enzo Maresca has enough attacking firepower at his disposal, with any major forward additions more likely to be revisited in the summer. Chelsea are also expected to focus on rewarding standout performers already in the squad.

Clause Adds Urgency

Semenyo is available for £65 million during the January window, though his release clause only remains active until the second week of the month. That ticking clock adds pressure for interested clubs, especially with Bournemouth under no need to sell given the player’s long-term deal.

Numbers That Turn Heads

The Ghana international scored 11 goals last season and has followed it up with eight strikes in just 16 appearances this term. His blend of pace, strength, and direct attacking play has made him one of the league’s most awkward matchups for defenders, and one of the more attractive options for clubs looking to add punch mid-season.

Bournemouth Staying Calm

Semenyo is contracted until 2030, having joined Bournemouth from Bristol City in 2023 for £10.5 million. Cherries boss Andoni Iraola has publicly played down the transfer chatter, insisting the forward remains fully focused on his performances. With Ghana failing to qualify for AFCON, there are no international distractions either.

For fans watching the January window unfold, this is one deal that could move quickly. If City decide to act before the clause expires, they may leave the rest of the chasing pack watching from the sidelines.
