Jurgen Klopp Congratulates Arne Slot as Liverpool Clinch 20th League Title
Jurgen Klopp may no longer be in the dugout, but he hasn’t drifted far from Liverpool’s orbit. After the Reds sealed their 20th English league title with a 5-1 victory over Tottenham, the former manager sent a heartfelt message to his successor, Arne Slot, praising him for writing his name into club folklore.
Slot, who has guided Liverpool to the Premier League crown in his debut season, revealed that Klopp was one of the many who reached out—though his name stood out more than most.
“I got a lot of messages, and most of them say the same thing,” Slot said. “But they’re genuine, and they mean a lot. Jurgen said congratulations, that I now know how special this club is, and that I’m part of its history now. He was really happy for me, the players, the staff, and the fans. That’s Jurgen.”
A New Chapter, A Familiar Spirit
Klopp, now head of global football at Red Bull, had championed Slot’s appointment and kept in touch throughout the season. His message came just hours after Liverpool wrapped up their latest title in front of a raucous Anfield—an experience Slot described as one of the best days of his life.
“The way we played, the emotion from the fans, the players, it was unforgettable,” he said. “If it’s possible to love this club even more, I do now. From the first day, the support’s been incredible. Winning together just deepens that connection.”
Klopp Set for Emotional Return
While he’s moved on from his managerial role, Klopp will return to Merseyside later this month. He’s scheduled to appear at the LFC Foundation’s Annual Gala on May 23 and may stick around for the title celebration against Crystal Palace on May 25—an event that will mark Liverpool’s first trophy lift in front of a home crowd in 35 years.
Slot Eyes Strong Finish
With four games left—Chelsea, Arsenal, Brighton, and Crystal Palace—Slot plans to rotate his squad but insists the team isn’t winding down.
“There will be changes in the lineup, but we believe in every player,” he said. “These games are important. They’re strong opponents, which gives us a good challenge. This isn’t just the end of this season—it’s the beginning of next.”
Liverpool resumed training at the AXA Centre on Wednesday after a brief break. The squad remains motivated, with a potential 94-point finish still in sight—a target Slot sees as a chance to quiet critics who’ve downplayed their success.
Still Work to Do
Off the pitch, the club has some unfinished business, including resolving Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contract situation. But for now, the mood around Anfield is celebratory—and deservedly so.
Slot has become only the fifth manager to win the Premier League in his first season. The pressure was immense, the expectations sky-high, but the Dutchman has delivered. And as Klopp told him, he’s now etched into Liverpool’s rich history.
