Juve’s First Defeat: Motta Takes Responsibility

Coach Admits to Tactical Shortcomings After 1-0 Loss to Stuttgart

Juventus coach Thiago Motta has openly acknowledged his role in his team’s 1-0 defeat against Stuttgart in the Champions League, marking their first loss of the season. Despite coming off two previous Champions League wins, Juventus were outplayed by the German side, with Motta admitting that tactical and defensive issues led to their downfall.

A Tough Night for Juve

On Tuesday night, Juventus faced a determined Stuttgart team, who controlled the game from the outset. Motta’s side struggled to make an impact, managing only one shot on target throughout the game. Goalkeeper Mattia Perin was instrumental in preventing a heavier defeat, pulling off several crucial saves. However, his heroics weren’t enough to stop Stuttgart from scoring the winning goal in added time, courtesy of former Atalanta striker El Bilal Touré.

“We didn’t control the flow of the game, and when that happens, you have to fight hard on the pitch,” Motta said after the match. “Stuttgart deserved the victory, they were better from the first minute, and we couldn’t impose our style.”

Injury Woes and Tactical Missteps

Juventus were missing several key players, including Nico Gonzalez, Gleison Bremer, and Arek Milik, but Motta refused to use that as an excuse. He emphasized the need for improvement in both attack and defense.

“I agree we need to attack more, but we must defend better first,” Motta explained. “We allowed Stuttgart to dominate the game, and when we did regain possession, we couldn’t build anything meaningful. I take full responsibility for that. We must fix these issues before the next matches.”

Moving Forward: Focus on Inter Milan

Looking ahead to their upcoming match against Serie A champions Inter Milan, Motta is determined to turn things around. Despite the disappointing result, he remains optimistic about the future and is focused on preparing his team for the challenges ahead.

“We must digest this defeat quickly and shift our focus to Inter,” he said. “We suffered from Stuttgart’s tempo and struggled to adapt. But we can definitely raise our level in the future.”

Motta’s candid admission of his team’s shortcomings reflects his commitment to improvement. Juventus will need to bounce back quickly as they face a tough schedule in both the Serie A and Champions League.
