Devin Booker Steps Up as Suns Enter a New Era

October 13, 2025 at 1:38 pm

Devin Booker has seen it all in a Phoenix Suns uniform — from lottery struggles to NBA Finals glory. Now, as the team enters a rebuilding phase, the 28-year-old guard finds himself leading a very different kind of mission: construction instead of contention.

“I just take it day by day, try to improve, try to learn, and lead at the same time,” Booker said after the Suns’ matchup against the Brooklyn Nets during the 2025 NBA China Games in Macau. “We’re building for the start of the season, and today was a good step forward.”

A Decade of Change

Since joining the Suns in 2015, Booker has grown from a young scorer into the face of the franchise. He’s now the team’s all-time leading scorer and emotional anchor — a constant through years of reinvention. Phoenix’s latest transformation marks another major shift.

After chasing titles with Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal, the Suns hit reset this offseason. Durant was traded, Beal’s deal was bought out, and the front office turned over with Brian Gregory taking over as general manager and Jordan Ott stepping in as head coach.

The new direction focuses on youth and development. The Suns added Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, and promising rookie center Khaman Maluach. It’s a longer-term plan built around Booker, who cemented his future in Phoenix with a two-year, $145 million extension through 2030.

The Weight of Leadership

Instead of frustration, Booker is embracing the change. His role now extends beyond scoring — he’s tasked with guiding a young roster through a rebuilding phase.

His calm, steady tone in Macau showed a veteran ready to lead by example. “Try to improve, try to learn, and lead at the same time,” he repeated — a mantra for a team seeking identity.

Under Ott, the Suns will rely heavily on Booker’s consistency and voice to establish a culture built on accountability and growth.

Finding Meaning in Transition

The 2025 NBA China Games marked the league’s first visit to China in six years and gave Phoenix a stage to show early signs of promise. Against Brooklyn, the Suns played with renewed energy — a small but encouraging glimpse of what’s to come.

Expectations for this season are modest, but Booker’s approach remains the same: focus on development, build habits, and lay the groundwork for the future.

Through every roster change and coaching shift, one truth holds — Devin Booker is the heartbeat of the Phoenix Suns.

For basketball fans and even bettors watching from afar, Booker’s steady presence hints at what to expect from Phoenix this season: a team that might not contend yet, but one that’s learning how to win again. And as always, Booker is right at the center — leading, building, and believing.
